Take me home!

When Dale Clark first moved into the North of Scotland there was no club promoting the Volkswagen marque, the nearest club at the time being The Lothians VW Club based in Edinburgh.

After contacting a reporter from the Press & Journal, the following article was printed in April 1991.

Following the above article several like minded characters contacted Dale and the first meeting of the club was organised at the Redgarth Hotel in Old Meldrum on the 14 March. The picture above right shows the initial crowd of enthusiasts after the meeting.

At that time the new committee decided on 'The North of Scotland VW - Audi Club' with the logo show below.

Initially membership consisted of both air-cooled and water-cooled enthusiasts with membership peaking at 90 in 1992. The club got together regularly at various venues in the North-East and a hard core visited the various VW shows, in particular, the Scottish VW Owners Festival at Doune and also VW Action which at the time was held at the agricultural showground at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

Below is a gallery of photos of club activities through the years at various venues.

As the club developed it became apparent that the majority of members prepared to get involved in club activities were either air-cooled owners or people interested in the traditional Beetle or Transporter. The first change to the club was to drop the Audi name from the logo, which now looked as below.

As interest in the club seemed to wane in the late 1990's, the committee felt that something else was needed to inject more interest in the club. Existing committee members were finding it difficult juggle activities in the club with other commitments. Our main push has been to create a club web site and by the time you read this it will obviously be up and running.

The spirit of the club was felt to be that of the 60's & 70's and to reflect this yet another logo has been devised.
